Nightlife
If you think that it's hot during the day, things tend to heat up
even more at night on St. Thomas. St. Thomas has the liveliest nightlife
in the Virgin Islands. It certainly is not Las Vegas, South Beach
or New York City but it's great island fun! Nightlife can be as
relaxed as listening to a calypso singer at your hotel sing old
favorites to as festive as jumping up at a Carnival night musical
showcase.
In Charlotte Amalie, along the waterfront area you will find some
happening bars and restaurants. It is not recommended that you stroll
around Charlotte Amalie at night, however the well lit bar area
on the waterfront and a few restaurants elsewhere in Charlotte Amalie
are great to go to.
Frenchtown is another good place to go out at night. There are several
great restaurants. A few small cozy bars are available for appetizers,
deserts and drinks. Dancing is available as well. Good parking is
available and the restaurants and bars are in walking distance from
each other.
In the Havensight area you will find several bars and restaurants.
Many of which feature more American themes with rock and roll music,
live bands, sports watching, pool tables and good times.
If you are looking for a semi-block party island style try heading
to Red Hook. Start off with some dinner and drinks. Head over to
another bar/restaurant to listen to music or maybe a live band.
Walk across the street and have a volcano, shark tank or other special
drink and dance! Red Hook has quite a few spots that are all in
walking distance, making bar hopping easy.
More upscale nightlife is available at resorts; piano bars, poolside
dining and beachfront bars are available. Some offer casual night
activities like Caribbean shows complete with calypso singers, steel
drum player, perhaps a mocko jumbie dancer often all under the stars.
Most resorts and hotels offer some type of nightlife; including
bars, game bars with pool tables, restaurants, Karaoke Bars, beach
volleyball, piano bars and more. Ask for information at your hotel's
reception desk.
In addition to bars and restaurants there are two centers on St.
Thomas that host plays, music concerts, poetry recitals and dance
showcases. Special events take place during holidays and local festivals
like Carnival, French Heritage Week and Christmas Season; they often
include concerts, shows, choir recitals, dances, and local bands.
